OH, to be Cool!

Galatians 6:6 Now the one who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with the one who teaches it. 6:7 Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. For a person will reap what he sows, 6:8 because the person who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. 6:9 So we must not grow wearyin doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up.

If somehow it’s only “real” and “cool” by being foul, promoting alcoholism, fashion trendy and in love with the world’s glitter and gold, then I’m just not cool enough- and I’m okay with that.

The bible teaches about humility and a lot about our relationship with one another, how we “ought” to behave and consider one another.  This is at the heart of relationships.  We are responsible for learning discernemnt and discretion in our lives, in what we do and say.  It’s a tough balance of being like Christ in a fallen nature.  Somehow it seems cooler to bash your Christian brother than be on guard of the unbeliever.  (Gal 6:10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of faith.)  Of course we are to love our neighbors, including unbelievers.  But when the chip on your shoulder and cynicism is more highly geared towards your brother (speaking of family of God), you have a heart issues.  It’s not “cool” to have issues as if it were something to be proud of.  It should make us humble that in spite of, we have a gracious God that is patient, slow to anger and abounding in love to see us through and finish the work that He begun in us.  Yes, it’s human and a normal part of the fallen nature of the life of which we live here on earth, but it’s not something to brag about and remain in.  Deal with it, humbly.

God adopts us as sinners but commands us to be like Him.  What a resonsibility!  He commands change.  Transformation.  And it isn’t to be taken lightly.  Yes, He is the author of this change.  But we are not left without responsibilty all the same.  The cares of this world will seek to quench, destry and distract our desires for Him but Christ has overcome the world for the sake of those who believe and take refuge in Him. We are not remain as we were, the “old self.”  We have become “new” when he adopts us.  When we earnestly seek Him and his will, He continually transforms our heart and desires for heavenly things.  We ought not be more enthralled with this world and all that it glitters.  There’s a fine line between appreciating God’s creaiton and things in this life created in freedom for our enjoyment and where it becomes an idol in our hearts.  It is so easy to become trapped and mesmerized by the “fun” this world flashes before our eyes, but oh, becareful little eyes what you see.  Take care of what you allow in through your eye lens. Many times, it’s the gateway to the heart and mind.

I dare say that what the world thinks and promotes as “cool” and what the bible promotes as good are as far as east from west.  We are to be different from the world.  What difference do you offer if you are in bed with the world and all its desires and lusts?  I say it’s far from the heart of God.  Knowing culture in order to witness the love of God must know some bounds, lest you get sucked into thinking it doesn’t matter.

Holiness, godliness and purity is to be sought after through much perseverance.  We can be weary at times but that’s why the Lord promises to provide grace and strength, that we may know, it is not of our own doing.  Praise His holy name.
